Led by recent graduate Cameron Mullaney, we just had a paper published in Ecology and Evolution that details some initial insights gained by deploying a pop-off camera onto green turtles in San Diego Bay. Cam spearheaded this project with us at NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center as part of his senior thesis at the University of California San Diego. He focused on an intriguing set of natural history observations that change how we think about green turtle social behavior and urban ecology in San Diego. Dr. Jeffrey Seminoff, Garrett Lemons, and Bryant Chesney were also key contributors for the paper. Nice work Cam!!! There are more photos and details for the pop-off camera, the “CATS cam,” on my research page.
