Along with our key partners Upwell, our NOAA research team is in the midst of field surveys for leatherback sea turtles at their foraging areas off the west coast of USA. This work takes place over multiple sites, including Monterey Bay (CA), the Pacific Northwest (OR + WA), and the Gulf of the Farallones (CA). The population of leatherbacks that forages here in the Eastern Pacific is highly imperiled, underscoring the importance of survey efforts aiming to describe movement patterns and densities.
Upwell is releasing a series of short videos that go into further depth about the work, which you can check out here. At the time of this post episode 1 and episode 2 are live, with more to follow.
